Double Double Whammy

Hey,

So I've decided that I sorta wanna do a little blogging outside of just the usual EVIL WEEVIL SHIT. I wanted to talk specifically about a couple kids from New York who I think are up to something really cool.

Last Spring Dave from the band Spook Houses sent me their 7" about doing something with Evil Weevil. I'll admittedly put it off for a little bit and finally got back to them and we started planning what will become their debut LP this Spring (2012). Dave also started sending me LVL UP stuff as they were recording, I really fell in love with this stuff. It was a band that I just liked not because we were putting it out or whatever. I just thought they were really great.

He then text messaged me in September or October of this year (2011) asking if I knew any labels that I think would be interested in putting it our. I basically begged to do the vinyl release of it. I'm sure the text messages read really desperate but I loved it! The record comes out this February with us. But the moral of this story is DDW.

Doubly Double Whammy is a label that Dave and Mike from LVL UP do together. They released the tape last month and when I finally received some copies I was so stoked. These dudes did everything right for a TOTALLY DIY cassette release. When I get tapes from other diy labels that aren't like Burger or something like that they just look for a lack of a better word shitty.

Everything is quality, the tape sounds good and the b-side is all b-sides and demos and stuff which I think is awesome, they used actual quality stock instead of like regular paper stock. Everything looked very clean and refreshing. These dudes did everything right.

They are on the verge of releasing their second tape for a band from their hometown called Toasted Plastic. It comes out in 30 minutes. I'll get some copies to put in the Evil Weevil store.

Look for some collaborations between our labels because its bound to happen.

Evil Weevil Welcomes Night Sins and LVL UP

Hey Everyone,

We are really excited to announce that we'll be working with two very different, but two very great bands. These will be some of our first two releases of 2012, and should see the light of day in early winter (February).

With out further ado here is some stuff:

Night Sins: Members of Salvation, Mother of Mercy, and Nothing take on coffin bound groans that creep through the corridors of one's mind like a half-recalled glimpse into the beyond. Christian Death/Bauhaus/Samhain possession with haunting vocals that hearken the ghost of Peter Steele.

We bring you their lead track "Anatasia" and this will be released as a 3 track 12" EP that is currently untitled. This will be limited to a pressing of 300.

LVL UP was formed in winter of 2010-2011 by David Benton and Mike Caridi as a joke. Dave and Mike intended to use LVL UP as an outlet for writing short lo-fi acoustic pop hits. After demoing their first few songs, the boys decided to spice up the mix with the sultry Benjamin Smith, Nick Corbo, and Greg Rutkin. After 8 months of recording/rerecording/
playingTonyHawk’sProSkater4™ LVL UP produced “SPACE BROTHERS: A 13 SONG TRIBUTE TO GIORGIO TSOUKALOS” in October 2011. “SPACE BROTHERS” is available on cassette through DOUBLE DOUBLE WHAMMY, and will be available on vinyl via Evil Weevil in early 2012. *_*

Here is a free download of their LP and this will be released this February with the Night Sins record.

We have so much other stuff planned for this year including a New Years Eve show to celebrate our 3rd anniversary, a 3 day wrestling/punk festival, a SXSW show and other fun stuff we enjoy doing.

Thanks for everything

Bill/Evil Weevil

Fall intern

Hey so things have really been picking up for us and we are heading into the most productive and release heavy schedule in our history. From Sept 27th through spring 2012 we are releasing 4 LPs, one 12" EP and a few 7" EPs & singles. So we are looking for someone to come in help keep up with our social networking, tour promotion, packing records, and any other mind numbing activities that happen at an independent record label. This would be a very part time gig and you don't even have to be in college but if you are we can work something out to get you some sort of credit for your work. Ideally I would like someone to come in 2 days a week or 15-20 hours. But this is a job and there will be actual work. There will be hanging out too, but there is a lot of work that will need to be done.

There are a few things that I do ask:
  • that you are familiar with our record output
  • that you like most of our record output
  • you don't mind working for experience, free stuff, lunch, and ice cream on Fridays.
  • there might be a little traveling involved: cmj, fest in florida, and that stuff
  • you are able to navigate Philadelphia's blue line to make it to our office safely when we come up with your schedule.
Cool if you are interested just send an email or something evilweevilrecords (a) gmail.com

Thanks!
Bill

August Update

Hey,

Its time for the sort of monthly but always bi-monthly going ons at the Evil Weevil Compound. We have two records on the way, a bunch of bands touring, some new record announcements, and some other stuff:
___________
UPCOMING RELEASES

To get this really going, its my pleasure to announce that we will be working with the mighty Psychic Lunch Records from Texas to release a record for PC Worship titled TOXIC LOVE. This will be limited to 500 on nice black vinyl. We should have this in time for their 3 week fall tour and appearance at the Hopscotch Festival in North Carolina in September. Dates, a new track and cover art will be up in a few weeks.

Next up we have the Easter Vomit LP titled EASTER VOMIT VS THE NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM. Finishing up artwork and all and should go to press sometime this week. This should also be out sometime in September. We'll put up a new track and album art later this week as well.
_____________
OTHER UPCOMING RELEASES

SPOOK HOUSES recently finished writing for their debut LP for Evil Weevil. It should be out sometime this winter on vinyl, cd and tape. I'm really excited to be working with these guys. They came down a few weeks ago and hung out at the office and spent a little time with us in our new favorite comic shop. Ontario Street Comics. Its actually a filming location for the movie Unbreakable. Great movie great comic shop!!

THE EERIES are also writing their follow up to their COMES ALIVE 7". Its set to also be released on vinyl this winter as well. I love this band. Super hard working and motivated dudes. They just got back from a killer full US tour and are planning to go back out this September to hit up Canada and all. The dates will be towards the end of this email.

BIG EYES are set to come back home to poppa with a 12" EP. We are working the details but in the meantime go over to the Don Giovanni webstore and pre order their new LP. Its a real f*cking rager. Its 11.99 PPD. They are also heading back on the road with our friends in PS Eliot. Dates will be located with The Eeries tour dates.

THE HUSSY will be releasing a 7" single with us sometime this fall/winter as well. Still working the deets out. Great hardworking rock and roll from Wisconsin.

CANNOMEN still trying to figure out when this is going to be finished. I'm excited either way. Ripping surfy hardcore from Nashville. We'll LET YOU KNOW.

___________
SOME ANNOUNCEMENTS:

As I write this I'm listening to The Crow soundtrack and I really wanted to take some time to address some things that have come up recently. First DIARRHEA PLANET aren't currently with Evil Weevil. I know we announced they we were going to do their LP LOOSE JEWELS. It was something we agreed on and I really wanted to do it but we are no longer releasing it as many of you have read it will be coming on out Infinity Cat Records. Am I mad at the band, have anything personal against them for this decision? NO. I've been emailed, PM'ed DM'ed, wall messages about this and most of the time I just don't answer. It was nothing personal. It was something that ultimately made sense. I love them, and I love Infinity Cat. Nothing personal. They wanted to work with a label that was in their area. Maybe one day we'll do another record together and I can't wait for that day. But I have no beef towards them and wish them all the luck in the world. I wish we were doing the record because it is indeed THAT good of a record. But yeah nothing personal.

Also, Mike left the label a few months ago now. It kind of sucks because I really like working with him. But The Eeries are VERY much a part of Evil Weevil still. He is still a great friend and he watched me eat a burrito last night. I want to thank him for the time he did put in and when he is ready to come back they'll always be a spot for him. <3

On top of these 6 newly announced records we have 2 split label releases with our buds from Physic Lunch Records from Texas, and a couple more exclusive Evil Weevil Records that are still just in the beginning stages.
